Abstract. The article examines the issue of the formation of professional and communicative competencies of students of non-linguistic institution of higher education by competency-oriented exercises. The characteristic and the structure of such exercises are shown. The example of a competency-oriented test exercise is given that is directed at the formation and control of the formation of a socio-cultural competency.
