ON THE AMERICAN DIALECTS

Abstract. The article examines the problem of origin, functioning and development/elimination of the territorial dialects of the American English. The paper provides an analysis of the basic reasons for the origin and development of the dialects from the viewpoint of the American dialectologists, presents a survey of the three classifications of the dialect areas on the USA territory. The authors explore the attitude of the American linguists to the use of dialect speech and answer the question on mixing/isolation of the dialects at the flourishing period of the electronic mass media.
