LINGUO-SEMIOTICS OF THE NOMINATIONS OF CLOTHES IN THE ENGLISH SUPERSTITIONS

Abstract. The article examines the specifics of national and cultural attitudes in the English superstitions with the basic lexemes nominating pieces of clothing. Starting with the general issues associated with a costume as a part of visual plane of culture, the author analyzes its utilitarian function in comparison with the semiotic system of linguistic signs of the English superstitious discourse taking into account their linguo-cultural peculiarities, territorial, age, gender- and socially determined characteristics.
