PRAGMATIC ADAPTATION OF ELLIPTICAL SENTENCES IN TRANSLATION

Abstract. The article considers the notions "expressiveness", "expressive syntax", identifies the means of expressiveness implementation, enhancing the pragmatic potential of an utterance, and determines the communicative status of elliptical utterances. When translating from English into Russian the choice of a sentence structure for the reproduction of ellipse is conditioned by the divergence of grammatical systems of the languages. The interpreter must reproduce the pragmatic potential of the original text and ensure the desired effect on the receptor of translation.
