THE GENDER ASPECT OF THE BRITISH PUBLICATIONS OF THE EARLY XX CENTURY (BY THE MATERIAL OF THE NEWSPAPERS "THE TIMES" AND "THE GUARDIAN")

Abstract. The article is devoted to the analysis of peculiarities of the linguistic representation of gender in the British newspaper publications of the early XX century. The notions "gender" and "gender representation" are revealed. The paper considers lexical representatives of gender in the British newspapers "The Times" and "The Guardian" in the period from 1909 to 1914. The research results of the analysis make it possible to conclude about the change of a woman’s gender portrait in the context of suffragism and the struggle for suffrage in the early XX century.
