QUALITATIVE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CATEGORY OF SLANDER: TRUE OR FALSE? (BY THE MATERIAL OF W. SHAKESPEARE’S PLAYS)

Abstract. The article examines the problem of linguistic representation of the category of slander. The paper presents the results of lexico-semantic analysis of the category of slander and the description of the mechanism of its functioning in the communication. The author argues for the thesis that the category under study is characterized by such key parameters of the basic meaning as the insufficient reliability of information and subjectively formed negative connotation.
