THE NOVEL BY F. M. DOSTOYEVSKY "THE IDIOT": EASTERN SUBTEXT AND CREATIVE WRITING

Abstract. The article is devoted to the problem of interpreting the novel by F. M. Dostoyevsky "The Idiot" at higher and secondary school. The study aims to present the writer’s creative work in broad philosophical and esthetic context. Modern literary education requires multi-dimensional understanding of classical works. Such an approach, on the one hand, implements the tendency to awake a new reader’s interest, to focus his/her attention on the heritage of the past. On the other hand, multi-dimensionality realizes an internal semantic potential associated with any great artistic phenomenon and discovers it contextually "in the big time" (M. M. Bakhtin). Dostoyevsky’s "The Idiot" can be interpreted not only in terms of western or traditionally Russian worldview but also in the eastern spiritual aspect. The figure of the main personage, prince Myshkin, serves as a linking element. The consideration of eastern subtext allows deeper understanding the meaning of his words and actions.
Key words and phrases: Ф. М. Достоевский, роман "Идиот", интерпретация, восточный подтекст, творческое сочинение, F. M. Dostoyevsky, "The Idiot", interpretation, eastern subtext, creative writing
