STRUCTURAL-SEMANTIC AND COGNITIVE PECULIARITIES OF METAPHORIZATION OF THE CONCEPT "SORROW" IN A. TENNYSONS POETRY

Kucher Irina Nikolaevna
Smolensk State University

Abstract. The article deals with the mechanisms of metaphorization of the abstract concept Sorrow in the context of structural and cognitive linguistics. In this connection, a complex analysis of compatibility of the concept is carried out on the basis of structural and semantic regularities of the construction of poetic nominal images and the functioning of basic cognitive metaphors in Alfred Tennysons elegiac poetry. The author substantiates the conclusion about the necessity of a different-level approach to the comprehension of figurative abstract concepts and the definition of their place in the poets conceptual sphere.
