CONCEPTUALIZATION OF EMOTIONAL AMBIVALENCE (BY THE MATERIAL OF THE MODERN ENGLISH LANGUAGE)

Abstract. The article is devoted to the study of emotional ambivalence from the positions of psycholinguistics and cognitive linguistics. By the material of the modern English language the author makes an attempt to conceptualize this emotional state and determine the ways of its verbalization. The article presents metaphorical models that serve as a source of comprehension and objectivation of this psychological phenomenon, determines prototypical and paraprototypical scenarios of emotional ambivalence, typical of the English culture. The study of the constituent elements of the emotive-cognitive space of emotional ambivalence enables to understand the essence of complex psychological phenomena and to find ways for internal conflict solution.
