Abstract. The article is devoted to studying the emotive vocabulary functioning in the media texts in related Slavic languages - Russian and Bulgarian. On the basis of the analysis, it is revealed that the emotional systems of the Russian and Bulgarian languages have much in common. In the reviewed Russian and Bulgarian newspapers, the use of more emotives with negative semantics than with positive one is noted. This trend is especially evident in Bulgarian.
