Abstract. The article presents some results of the comparative analysis of the lexical-semantic field "devilry" in the Tatar and English languages which indicate anthropomorphism as one of the main features inherent in the images of evil spirits in the investigated linguocultures. The sources of the study are data from lexicographic works. The translation of the examples has been done by the authors. It is established that anthropomorphism typical of objects and subjects interacting with the devilry is expressed through the following: the group nature of perception of the surrounding objects; the understanding of their uniqueness and singularity; the belief in the exceptional importance of family and blood ties as an integral part of the value system in the context of the studied cultures.
Key words and phrases: татарский язык, английский язык, антропоморфизм, мифологический образ, нечистая сила, Tatar language, English language, anthropomorphism, mythological image, devilry
