ASYMMETRY OF SEMANTICS AND FUNCTIONING OF BORROWINGS AND THEIR ANALOGUES (BY THE MATERIAL OF THE RUSSIAN WORD БОЙКОТ AND THE ENGLISH WORD BOYCOTT)

Abstract. The article highlights the first stage of a comprehensive study of the semantic potential of the borrowed word "бойкот" and its derivatives: "бойкотирование", "бойкотировать", "бойкотируемый", "бойкотированный" in comparison with their prototypes in English - "boycott", "boycotted", "boycotting". The analysis includes a phased study of the etymology and functional potential of each of the words. To determine the level of assimilation of the word "бойкот" in the Russian discourse the derivational ability of the borrowed word is considered, as well as the relative frequency of the occurrence of the lexemes of the family of words under study in discourse.
