THE PHENOMENON OF READERS’ INTEREST AND WAYS TO INFLUENCE IT WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF A PSYCHOLOGICAL CRIMINAL NOVEL

Abstract. The article considers the phenomenon of readers’ interest, which is relevant for a number of humanities. The main goal is to identify the ways of influencing the readers’ interest within a psychological criminal novel. The novel "Rebecca" by D. du Maurier (1938) is analyzed to study the stated problems. The following ways of influencing the readers’ interest within the framework of the psychological criminal novel are revealed: the narration on behalf of "the nameless" character; the creation of hero’s portrait with the help of stories about him by the third parties; the comparison and opposition of two main characters; circular plot structure; chronological changes in the novel.
