DOSTOYEVSKY’S SAINT PETERSBURG: SEMIOTICS OF URBAN SPACE IN THE CONTEXT OF PETERSBURG TEXT DEVELOPMENT

Khasieva Mariya Alanovna
Moscow State University of Civil Engineering

Abstract. The topic of Dostoyevsky’s Saint Petersburg was singled out as a specific part in Dostoyevsky’s studies in the early XX century. Despite the contradictions and multidimensional nature of metaphorical representation of Petersburg environment in Dostoyevsky’s works, various researchers identify similar characteristics of the semiotic model of Dostoyevsky’s Saint Petersburg. This model is incorporated into the general literary and cultural tradition of Petersburg text. Analyzing the studies on this subject, it is possible to trace the evolution of Saint Petersburg semiotic model in Dostoevsky’s creative work, as well as to highlight Dostoyevsky’s personal contribution to the development of Petersburg text.
