ELEVATING VOICE TONE AS A WAY OF ATTRACTING PASSENGERS’ ATTENTION IN ORAL INFORMATION ANNOUNCEMENTS

Zharovskaya Elena Viktorovna
Amur State University, Blagoveshchensk

Abstract. The article considers the melodics of information announcements by the example of messages at the airport. It is noted that in the texts of this genre an ascending tone is often used as a means of attracting passengers’ attention, which cannot be related to the emotional state of the announcer. With the use of the Praat program the recording of the information announcement is analyzed, melodic contours, the frequency of the main tone, the intensity of the important parts of the text are analyzed as well, and a conclusion is made that the elevating of the main tone is set specially for the effective impact on a passenger in order to attract attention by the eccentricity of speech. The rhetorical function of this technique is obvious: the announcer indicates the incompleteness of the text, mobilizing the listener’s attention to its continuation.
