GOOD AND EVIL IN THE NOVEL BY M. A. SHOLOKHOV "QUIETLY FLOWS THE DON": AXIOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF HISTORICAL IMAGES

Grechushkina Nataliya Valer'evna
Lipetsk State Pedagogical University named after P. P. Semyonov-Tyan-Shansky

Abstract. The article examines M. A. Sholokhov’s interpretation of good and evil regarding the revolution and civil war. The paper shows that historical images are presented through the prism of metaphysical opposition of good and evil expressed by the chronotope of "quiet" and "troubled" Don. Author’s viewpoint on history and historical personages involves the inadmissibility of violence, value of individual life, tragedy of path chosen during the civil war. White generals’ images are ideologically and compositionally associated with the images of Grigori Melekhov and grandfather Grishaka. It is shown that historical personages are an important component of novel’s epic texture. These conclusions overturn a theory of fragmentary schematic use of memoirs and undoubtedly prove M. A. Sholokhov’s authorship, his mastery as a word-painter who contributed greatly to the development of the Russian culture.
