Abstract. This article presents the results of a comparative analysis of the Russian and English phraseological units with the somatic component "head" by the material of lexicographic sources. The authors propose their own detailed classification of the linguistic units under consideration, taking into account their structural and semantic features. Groups of substantive, verbal and adverbial phraseological units are distinguished, which, in turn, are divided into subgroups in accordance with the meanings they express. The specificity of the implementation of metaphorical transfer in phraseology, the basis of which is the somatic component "head", is considered.
