The author examines semantic meanings of five lexemes of Germanic origin nominating mythical creatures, analyzes normative frequency of these lexemes in four corpuses and five genre sub-corpuses of the English language. The semantic meanings of lexemes are identified; the lexemes are ranked according to polysemy-monosemy feature and the frequency in the modern English language.
