FEATURES OF TRANSLATION OF THE FRENCH JUDICIAL-LEGAL TERMS INTO ENGLISH (BY THE EXAMPLE OF P. LEMAITRE’S NOVEL "ALEX")

Abstract. The article presents the brief history of the French fiction of a detective genre and its actual position in the world. The main differences between the law enforcement systems of France and Great Britain, which complicate the translation process, are considered. By the comparative analysis of P. Lemaitre’s novel "Alex" in the original and translation into English the methods and ways, chosen by the interpreter to convey this or that term associated with the police and judicial systems of France, are revealed. The paper gives conclusions about the conducted research.
