IMAGE OF RUSSIA IN M. YU. LERMONTOV’S NOVEL "VADIM" IN THE CONTEXT OF I. A. ILYIN’S PHILOSOPHICAL REFLECTIONS

Abstract. The article reveals a view on M. Yu. Lermontov’s novel "Vadim" in the context of I. A. Ilyin’s philosophical reflections, whose works have become widespread in recent decades. The focus of attention is the image of Russia in the writer’s unfinished youthful novel. Considering the image of Russia presupposes understanding the spiritual aspect of the national world perception, which I. A. Ilyin was able to express fully. Thus, the Russian philosopher’s reflections on Russia, illustrated with the help of the Russian writers’ texts, become the basis for understanding the narrative structure of the novel "Vadim". I. A. Ilyin’s critical remarks also help to disclose more completely the characteristics of Lermontov’s historical literary thought formation at the early stage of his creative development.
