Abstract. The article reveals the factors of loss of certain areas of social practice in the Scandinavian languages as a result of globalization and influence of transnational English. Domain loss is considered not as a loss of linguistic means but as redistribution of language functions under conditions of internationalization of science and higher education. Such redistribution is pragmatically justified by language policy aimed to transfer domain from the category of national to the category of international, that’s why English is not an aggressor but a partner in relation to national languages.
