SYNONYMS AS THE MEANS OF REPRESENTATION OF THE ATTRIBUTE "HEAVY" IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Abstract. The article analyzes the nominations of the attribute "heavy" with English adjectives implemented in authentic texts and recorded in lexicographic sources. The result of the study is the description of the semantic links of the synonyms that determine the content of the attribute "heavy" in the minds of native speakers. The novelty consists in the identification of the conceptual characteristics, in accordance with which synonymic sets are formed, as well as in determining the national specificity of the use of the adjectives representing the attribute "heavy" in the English language.
