Abstract. The article analyzes the structure and semantics of the Kyrgyz figurative words, identifies and describes their functional and grammatical peculiarities. The authors examine the basic approaches to studying imitative words in the Turkic languages and propose a classification of this lexical group. The Kyrgyz grammar textbooks mention only two types of figurative words. The authors give arguments to distinguish five groups of imitative words and some intermediate subgroups in the mentioned language. The paper describes the lexico-semantic peculiarities of all the types of the Kyrgyz imitative words, provides their Russian equivalents, which contributes to the comparative study of the languages and to the practice of the second language teaching under the conditions of the Kyrgyz-Russian bilingualism.
Key words and phrases: имитативы, мимемы, звукоимитативы, светоимитативы, имитативы действия, психоимитативы, imitative words, mimemas, sound imitative words, light imitative words, imitative words of action, psycho-imitatives
