Abstract. The article examines nationally conditioned features, qualities and character traits of the British fairy tale heroines. These features are emphasized by means of comparative constructions and epithets. In this connection, the author analyses the artistic and style originality of the lexical means participating in the formation of the personages’ images. The conclusion is made that comparisons and epithets play a key role in actualization of the female images. The basic qualities of the British fairy tale heroines - intelligence, native wit, courage, sense of humour and optimism - represent the model of the British national character.
Key words and phrases: национальное своеобразие, языковая картина мира, британские сказки, специфика женских персонажей, сравнительные конструкции, эпитеты, national specificity, linguistic worldview, British fairy tales, specificity of female images, comparative constructions, epithets
