Abstract. The paper aims to identify metaphorical models of medical terms’ formation. Scientific originality of the study involves the classification of productive metaphorical models of medical terms’ formation. The findings indicate that sometimes metaphorical transfer is due to the breach of semantic relations. The authors identify groups of terms and terminological word-combinations (dependent and independent), which are formed on the basis of metaphorical transfer. International terms formed according to the metaphorical model are provided.
Key words and phrases: метафора, термин-метафора, терминосистема, медицинские термины, метафорическая модель, терминогенез, терминологическая лексика, metaphor, term-metaphor, terminological system, medical terms, metaphorical model, genesis of terms, terminological vocabulary
