PUSHKIN’S MOTIVES IN A. P. GAIDAR’S STORY "THE DRUMMER’S FATE"

Submitted: 03.10.2019
Abstract. The article shows close interrelation of a classical work of the Russian literature - A. S. Pushkin’s novel "The Captain’s Daughter" - and A. P. Gaidar’s story of an adolescent of the 1930s. This conclusion is justified by the fact that both the works belong to the Bildungsroman genre and the main characters’ life stories are similar. The paper analyses motives and problems common for both the authors: parental admonishment and the son’s adherence, the problem of choosing a life path, the motive of temptation and overcoming it, the motive of return of a prodigal son, etc. All the above mentioned indicates the continuity of A. Gaidar’s prose as to the traditions of the Russian classical literature and testifies universality of the ethical values proclaimed by the writer.
