Abstract. The synonymy of physical terms-eponyms is analysed. It is shown that almost 39% of physical eponymic names have synonyms, 4 of which turn out to be conditional synonyms, and the remaining 127 are doublets. In characterizing the synonymy of the studied terms, N. V. Novinskaya’s classification has been used. According to the obtained results, the prevailing type of synonymic relations is the relation "eponym and its synonym expressing the classification feature of the notion" (37.4%), the relation "eponym and symbolic expression of the notion" (33.5%) is almost as common.
