Abstract. The article analyses the role of verbal valence variability in the conceptualization of spatial motion causation expressed by indexical causative constructions with the English phrasal verbs. The author examines the importance of context and the observer factor while transferring the conditions and peculiarities of influence on the object of causation and when interpreting a verb meaning in the structure of analysed constructions. Special attention is paid to analysing causative situations expressed by non-prototypical constructions. The study is based on the linguistic material obtained from dictionaries and a text corpus.
