Abstract. The article provides a comparative analysis of the nuclear lexemes of the concept AIR/ in the Russian and French languages. Similarities and differences between the French and Russian lexemes are identified. The findings allow the authors to conclude that the semantic filling of the lexemes "" and "air"" coincides in almost all their meanings: "mixture of gases forming the Earths atmosphere", "inspiratory environment of living beings", "free space over the Earth", "environment". The distinctive feature of the nuclear lexeme "" in the Russian language is the meaning "veil covering the Eucharistic cup". In the French language, the nuclear lexeme "air" is distinguished by the meaning "gas motion".
