Visual Context as a Way of Representing Technical Knowledge

Abstract. Technical knowledge can be represented as a terminological database but such bases usually do not support contextual modeling, that’s why visual context is considered as one of the ways to represent technical knowledge in the structure of terminological databases. According to the author, iconicity and dynamism of visual context can serve as criteria of its identification. The analysis of technical articles has allowed identifying two types of visual contexts: knowledge-rich contexts and knowledge-poor contexts.
