Strategies to Translate Polymodal Texts: From the Experience of Teaching Professionally Oriented English-Russian Translation

Abstract. The research objectives are as follows: relying on personal experience of teaching written translation from English into Russian, the author proposes methodological recommendations to overcome difficulties when teaching linguistic students to translate polymodal texts, including those of blogosphere discourse. The researcher identifies peculiarities of modern polymodal texts and concludes on reasonability of their usage when teaching translation. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the researcher considers a poorly investigated problem of using polymodal texts when teaching written translation from English into Russian within the framework of an additional educational program. The research findings are as follows: the author proposes recommendations on the choice of translation strategies to achieve adequacy and equivalence when translating polymodal texts from English into Russian.
