Submitted: 15.02.2020
Abstract. The article examines specificity of the RELIGIOUS IDENTITY concept representation in the Russian and western linguo-cultures. Tackling the problem of discrepancy of the two linguo-cultural concepts with the seemingly similar meaning allows a new interpretation of the religious identity phenomenon. The conclusions are made that addressing the issue of completely different connotation of the Russian and English concepts gives an opportunity to identify both the factors influencing formation of religious identity and the factors promoting adoption of the post-transgressional model of religious identity in different cultures.
