Spatial-Temporal Continuum of R. T?pffer’s Novel "The Fear"

Abstract. The paper aims to reveal the content, functions and semantics of spatial-temporal continuum in R. T?pffer’s novel "The Fear". As it is shown, peculiarities of spatial-temporal semantics constitute originality of the writer’s artistic world. The researchers consider transformation and deformation of the novel’s chronotope, identify its semantic functions, analyse the frontier chronotope. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that specificity of artistic space and time in R. T?pffer’s novel has not been previously investigated in the Russian literary criticism. The findings indicate that the novel’s chronotope characterized by dynamism, specifics, ambivalence and psychologism correlates with two types of toposes - real and illusionary.
