Non-Pronominal Interrogative Sentences with Direct Word Order in the English Language

Abstract. The research objective includes revealing structural and functional peculiarities of non-pronominal interrogative sentences with the direct word order. The study is conducted by the material of the Spoken English Corpus. The author shows how mechanisms of word order violation in interrogative sentences correlate with the syntactic ellipsis phenomenon, which constitutes scientific originality of the paper. The research findings are as follows: the author suggests a structural-semantic classification of non-pronominal interrogative constructions with the direct word order taking into account the rheme marking function of an interrogative sentence.
