Functional-Pragmatic Peculiarities and Idiomatic Semantics of the English Neologisms - Computer Terms

Abstract. The paper aims to reveal functional-pragmatic peculiarities of the English neologisms - computer terms. The article considers multifunctional nature of terms-neologisms, which is due to multi-functionality of the computing terminological system. The author identifies functional specificity of idiomatic neologisms - computer terms, reveals their functions (identifying, definitional, descriptive, mnemotechnical, etc.) in the process of nomination, which constitutes scientific originality of the study. As a result, it is proved that idiomatic neologisms-terms are most often formed by metaphorization based on similarity of form, size, nature and functions. Many computer terms are formed as a result of metaphorical extension.
