Abstract. The purpose of the research is to consider the issues of motivation, the relationship between the form and meaning of a word, using the example of the veterinary terminology system in the German language. Scientific novelty lies in studying motivation of German veterinary terms, which contributes to their further systematisation and to a better knowledge of them. As a result of the research, it has been found that the veterinary terminology system is predominantly represented by terms with morphological motivation, which are derivative and composite terms containing Greek and Latin term elements and affixes of German origin, as well as two-component terminological phrases of the attributive type.
Key words and phrases: мотивированность термина, морфологическая мотивированность, ветеринарная терминосистема, словосложение, терминоэлемент, motivation of a term, morphological motivation, veterinary terminology system, word composition, term element
