Semantic Reframing as One of the Ways of Coining New Words in the Youth English-Language Online Press

Abstract. The purpose of the research is to identify and systematise internal and external semantic reframes in young people’s lexical innovations. The work is novel in that it is the first to consider lexical innovations in the youth English-language online press taking into account the productivity of their formation methods, involving a comprehensive statistical analysis of the material under study. In addition, the paper presents new empirical material obtained in the course of the research. As a result, it has been proved that semantic reframing is the most effective way of coining new words among the younger generation, as evidenced by the analysis of the youth English-language online press of 1995-2021.
