Abstract. The paper addresses the reception of female images of F. M. Dostoevsky in the novels of H. S. Walpole. The main points of the re-creation of Dostoevsky’s female images in the creative work of the English writer are determined. The appearance features and character traits of the images of Russian women created by Walpole are analysed, their role in the development of the novel plot is studied. The research aims to determine the specifics of H. S. Walpole’s re-creation of F. M. Dostoevsky’s female images. Scientific originality of the work is connected with its aim and lies in the fact that it is the first time that the perception of Dostoevsky’s creative work in Walpole’s novels is considered in the aspect of female images. The main research finding is as follows: H. S. Walpole recreates the images of F. M. Dostoevsky’s female characters in accordance with a special concept of the Russian national character. The Russian women depicted in his novels have such common features as willingness to make sacrifices, an inner desire for freedom and the ability to rebel. Russian women, juxtaposed with English male characters and often contrasted with English female characters, appear in Walpole’s novels as the embodiment of his ideas about sacrificial, strong and freedom-loving Russian people.
