SERVICE CLASS TATARS AS RUSSIAN STATE POPULATION SOCIAL CATEGORY OF THE XVITH-XVIITH CENTURIES

Abstract. The authors consider the theoretical-methodological foundations of "service class Tatars" analysis as the social category of the Russian state population at the late Middle Ages. Chronologically the ethnic-estate groups of service class Tatars were formed in the middle of the XVIth century, on the eve of Kazan' Khanate capture. But the process of their formation began in the XIVth century, and the system and order of service were largely borrowed from the Golden Horde.
