Abstract. The article analyzes the realization of scientific and pedagogical ideas by Pavel Nikolayevich Ignatiev, the Minister of National Education of the Russian Empire, in the Soviet epoch. The paper emphasizes the continuity of the Soviet school, concludes that it developed exactly on the basis that had been laid by P. N. Ignatiev and his reforms. The authors analyze Soviet reforms in the sphere of education, which were inspired by P. N. Ignatiev’s ideas, examine the evolution of the methodical foundations of teaching, identify backgrounds for a new educational model formation in Russia considering the fact that the modern educational system has deep historical roots that go back to Russian educational traditions.
