Abstract. The article considers the essence of the phenomenon "functional illiteracy", some reasons explaining the appearance of this phenomenon in our country and the directions of its wiping out basing on some educational measures undertaken by the state and developed scientific educational techniques. Text-centered technology of authentic contents sense processing gives the fundamental character of a specific educational subject.
