ACADEMIC WRITING SKILLS DEVELOPMENT IN TEACHING TRANSLATION BASING ON WORD-FOR-WORD TRANSLATION

Abstract. The article considers the possibility of developing the skills of foreign-language writing in the process of teaching the Russian-English translation of the academic text to students, master’s degree students and postgraduates of a non-linguistic university. The phenomenon ‘word-for-word translation’ and the notions close to it are discussed. The author’s understanding of word-for-word translation from the position of its effective use for the formation of translation skills and the development of students’ linguistic competence as one of the important components of a modern specialist’s academic literacy is presented.
