Abstract. The article is devoted to the organization of the independent work of students receiving higher legal education as one of educational forms. The basic notions "independent work", "self-training", "self-education", "self-development" are considered. Emphasis is placed on the importance of introducing some forms of students’ independent work during lectures, practical and seminar classes. The main difficulties that law students face in carrying out independent work are presented, and it is recommended to use actively the pedagogical support of students for the effective organization of their independent work.
