Abstract. The study aims to provide an insight into specific features of Biblical understanding of such notions as feeling of guilt and identity. Scientific novelty of the work lies in attempting to look at this issue from the position of the Christian anthropology and Russian religious-philosophical thought. The research findings have shown that 1) guilt is considered as the first cause and one of the most important factors of human identity formation; 2) the philosophical category "Other" is presented in Biblical narrative as an issue concerning relationships between the God and a man; 3) the plot of the New Covenant offers a solution for conflict of identities through Jesus Christ’s Atonement.
