Abstract. The authors consider specificity of folk instrumental interpretation. By the example of instrumentation of N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov’s "The Battle of Kerzhenets" score, the paper examines difficulties that occur while adapting symphonic music for the Russian folk orchestra. Special attention is paid to analysing tutti and solo parts in the score of the folk orchestra version. The techniques to adapt symphonic score for the Russian folk orchestra are revealed.
