The Soviet Intelligentsia as Social Phenomenon

Abstract. The paper aims to describe the Soviet intelligentsia as a social group. The article reveals the basic features of the Soviet intelligentsia, analyses its historical development. Special attention is paid to identifying differentiating features of this social group. The author reveals close interrelation of two types of intelligentsia: classical and Soviet. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the researcher for the first time analyses the phenomenon of the Soviet intelligentsia through the lens of its historical development, provides a comparison of the Soviet and "classical" intelligentsia. As a result, a social model of the Soviet intelligentsia is suggested.
