Social and Ontological Features of Folk Traditions

Abstract. The purpose of the article is to shed light on ontological essence of folk traditions through an analysis of their features and functions. The authors seek to trace the origin of folk traditions and consider their formation; special attention is paid to their role in constitution and functioning of the society. Scientific novelty of the article lies in interdisciplinary consideration of the issue with involvement of works by the modern Russian and western experts. As a result, the researchers provided rationale for the constitutive role of folk traditions in social ontology of the society. Their importance in preservation of ethnic cultural space is emphasised and the key factors of modernity that influence erosion of social ontology of ethnic communication systems are noted.
