Abstract. The article is devoted to a dictation as one of the types of control of writing skills formation. The author analyzes errors made by foreign students and teachers who participated in the event "Total dictation". The typology of errors is based on a known classification. The various options of graphic design of one and the same language unit are examined. The linguistic causes of articulatory and acoustic dysgraphia are identified and commented on.
