Abstract. The article focuses on identifying landscape functions in V. M. Golovnin’s works "Memoirs of a Captivity in Japan, during the Years 1811, 1812 and 1813 with Observations on the Country and the People" (1815), "The Journey of the Russian Imperial Sloop ‘Diana’ from Kronstadt to Kamchatka" (1819), "Around the World on the Kamchatka" (1822). The paper examines the typology of the functions of landscape descriptions in V. M. Golovnin’s works as forms of documentary-fiction prose. The researcher reveals and analyses two types of landscapes: "chronotopic" and "psychological" ones. The basic meaningful components of each type of landscape are identified.
