Evolution of Terminological System of the Subject Area "Information Networks": "Net" vs "Web"

Abstract. By the example of the most frequent terms "net" and "web", the article examines dynamics and development trends of terminology of the subject area "information networks". The authors analyse motivation for term-formation and describe stages of adopting new terms of this subject area. The processes of the terms differentiation and broadening of their semantic meanings are observed. Users’ tendency to replace the terms is identified. Special attention is paid to the etymological analysis of the two terms: "net" and "web".
